Like many tropical fruits, passionfruit is having a bit of a moment. You can find it (along with pomegranate and mango) is a variety of recipes, smoothies and (yes) skincare. But what makes this bright yellow oil so powerful?
Passionfruit oil comes from the seeds of the passionfruit and the passion flower tree, which natively grows in South American and Africa (though Australia and Hawaii have more recently sprouted passion flower plants). It’s not only a great source of fiber, but it’s also helpful for promoting digestive health, fighting cancer, soothing asthma and reducing pain that comes from osteoporosis—all of which promote beauty from the inside out.
But its benefits don’t stop when you snack on the fruit: Passionfruit oil is an incredibly multi-faceted ingredient that boosts skin health when applied topically. It’s full of vitamins and antioxidants that combat signs of aging, while helping to eliminate blemish-causing bacteria.
Passionfruit oil is a protectant for skin. It inhibits the growth of cancer-causing agents, while it fights DNA-damaging free radicals. Its light, non-greasy texture ensures the skin drinks it up quickly, making it a great moisturizer for all skin types, including acne-prone skin. Passionfruit oil is noncomedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores, and is gentle enough for even sensitive skin. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, meaning it can reduce the look of redness, irritation and blemishes as it’s absorbed into skin.
Its high vitamin C and antioxidant content helps slow the damage that leads to the appearance of aging. As we get older, our skin’s production of both collagen (which keeps skin looking firm and toned) and elastin (which keeps skin from sagging) slows. Passionfruit oil helps preserve the collagen and elastin in our skin, resulting in the appearance of firmer, more youthful skin.
Other signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles, can also be treated with passionfruit oil. Vitamin A in the form of carotenoids helps skin cells regrow and repair; passionfruit oil actually encourages our bodies to produce more vitamin A, which promotes cell turnover and plumps skin. Linoleic and oleic acids (two fatty acids essential to balanced, blemish-free, hydrated skin) also plump skin, giving it a smoother, younger appearance.
Paired with other powerful, plant-based oils in Organic Bath Co.’s Enhance Face Oil, passionfruit oil helps create a skin-healing facial tonic that simultaneously balances inflamed skin and encourages a more youthful-looking glow. This fruit oil is just one of the ingredients that helps reveal your best skin yet, providing deep hydration and nourishment.
